Inquiry into offending by former corrections officer Wayne Astill at Dillwynia Women’s Correctional Centre

On 28 July 2023, the NSW Government announced that it had appointed the Hon Peter McClellan AM KC to lead a special ministerial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the offences committed by former NSW correctional officer Wayne Astill.

On 13 September 2023, the inquiry was reconstituted as a Special Commission of Inquiry pursuant to letters patent issued by her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of the State of New South Wales in the Commonwealth of Australia, under the Special Commissions of Inquiry Act 1983.

The Special Commission concluded with the delivery of the final report to the Governor and Premier on 29 February 2024.
